Titus Scores With LYNERGY Electric Heater
Time-proportional heater eliminates over and under-heating of zones
Richardson, Texas (February 7, 2005)
Tired of hearing “too cold, too hot” from occupants when they describe the fluctuating temperatures of their building’s electric heaters? Titus executives listened to those types of complaints and are pleased to announce that the Lynergy Comfort Control electric heater has been added to their company’s Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning (HVAC) product line. The new heater eliminates over and under-heating in building zones—provides just the right amount of heat needed to keep building-occupants comfortable.
“Research studies indicate that employee health and productivity are improved by installing and maintaining an air distribution system that provides a constant level of comfort,” said Titus Sr. Product Manager Jenny Abney. “The Lynergy Comfort Control electric heater is the type of quality product that architects and specifying engineers have come to expect from Titus—a state-of-the-art HVAC product that performs.”
Architects are keenly aware that building owners are concerned about occupant comfort as well as indoor air quality, acoustics and energy consumption. Titus employees took those points under consideration and also researched the HVAC system’s zone re-heat design standards as listed in the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Fundamentals Handbook. Several ASHRAE industry standards apply to those areas of design that were addressed by the company. One of the standards indicates that discharging air at a temperature more than 15º F above the room temperature (90º F in a 75º F room) will result in significant unwanted air temperature stratification.
Traditionally, standard staged electric heat energized each stage of heat as the zone temperature required more heat. In a typical three-stage heater, the increase happened in heater output increments of thirty-three percent (33%). If an additional thirty-three percent (33%) heater output provided too much heating for the zone, then the heater would de-energize that stage. The result was cycles of over and under-heating of the zone which caused discomfort for building occupants.
The Titus Lynergy proportional electric heater eliminates the over and under-heating of the zone by providing only as much heater output as is needed to satisfy the zone. This is accomplished because the innovative Titus product is an electronic, time-proportional electric heater that uses silent, rapid-responding, solid-state relays to convey the signal. Those solid-state relays are controlled by the Lynergy Comfort Controller, a device that accepts several input signal types to provide the superior control required for maintaining an even temperature.
In addition to supplying the exact amount of heater output needed, the Lynergy heater has an optional discharge temperature sensor. This sensor allows the heater’s controller to limit the electric heater’s maximum discharge temperature, and meets the requirements of the ASHRAE standards.
